Preserving Our Legacy
View the Future (VtF) honors Yachats' heritage and builds a sustainable future through community-driven initiatives.

Trail-ED
This Interactive Pocket Guide to the Amanda Trail, supported by the Braemar Charitable Trust and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, enriches the hiking experience from Yachats to Cape Perpetua by highlighting Indigenous history, native culture, and environmental stewardship. Designed in partnership with View the Future, Oregon State University Extension, and artist Nora Sherwood, this educational guide showcases local plants and wildlife important to Native populations and includes interactive prompts to engage hikers. The guide aims to deepen awareness of Yachats' Indigenous heritage and foster a stronger connection with the land, promoting cultural understanding and community health for future generations.

Amanda Bridge Dedication
The VTF-sponsored Bridge Dedication on the Amanda Trail, inaugurated in May 2022, commemorates the area’s Native American heritage and honors the local Amanda Tribe. This suspension bridge, part of a broader community effort, aims to bridge cultural gaps, foster healing, and celebrate historical significance. The dedication ceremony included traditional practices and highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and unity.

Amanda Statue
This statue stands alongside the Amanda Trail, which runs from Yachats to the lookout at the top of Cape Perpetua. It memorializes Amanda, a blind Indigenous woman who was cruelly treated during the genocide committed against the Alsea, Coos, and Lower Umpqua tribes in the mid-19th century.
Interpretive Sign Project
In partnership with the City of Yachats and the Yachats Trails Committee, we designed and installed four new interpretive trail signs: The Amanda Trail, The 804 Trail, The Yachats Wetlands, and the Gerdemann Botanical Preserve.
